A different Mother’s Day

She isn't going to know my name when I call her today. She isn't going to understand why I'm saying happy mother's day. I'll do most of the talking, and she won't really follow along. But I know I’ll get to hear a laugh. And in that laugh will be everything I need for now. And when the day comes when I no longer get to hear it, the memory will carry me. And should the day come when the memory leaves, then I’ll be left with the only thing that was real all along - the thing that exists beyond all words, memories and ideas.

This woman has shown me more of life and love than I ever bargained for. She is worthy of my tears, so I feel no shame when I shed them. She is worthy of my smile, so I will share it freely when life places it on my lips.

Life is all of it, and you are everything. I love you mama.
